BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University junior Goal Keeper Justin Nolan (Medina, Ohio/Highland) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after posting a pair of shutouts in GLIAC play last weekend.

Goal keeper Justin Nolan kept two
clean sheets last week to help the Eagles to a 1-0-1 weekend
against #25 Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. Nolan made three
saves to keep the first-place Timberwolves off the board on Friday.
The junior was called into action six times in Sunday’s draw
with the Cardinals. It was his fourth shutout of the season and the
10th in his career. Nolan is currently fourth in the GLIAC in goals
against average (1.20) and third in saves (50).

Ashland
Eagles
The Eagles were 1-0-1 last week to
snap an eight-game winless streak. AU beat #25 Northwood on Friday
at Ferguson Field, 2-0. Kenny Hewitt (London, England) opened the
scoring with a nicely placed strike from 12 yards off an
over-the-top feed from J.P. Lytle (Wooster, Ohio). It was
Hewitt’s third goal of the season and Lytle’s second
assist. The second goal came on a defensive miscue by the
‘Wolves that led to an own goal. Junior goalkeeper Justin
Nolan (Medina, Ohio) made three saves for the shutout. On Sunday,
Nolan made six saves to preserve a 0-0 tie against SVSU. It was
Nolan’s fourth shutout of the season and the 10th in his
career. With the four points over the weekend, the Eagles are still
in the hunt for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament. They host Ohio
Dominican on Thursday in a crucial game. On Sunday, the Eagles
travel to Urbana for a nonconference game.
Findlay Oilers
The Oilers went 1-2 on the road
last week. They defeated Oakland City 1-0, fell 4-2 to Urbana
and lost 3-0 to Ohio Dominican. Sophomore Alex Oliver scored
two goals during the week, which included the game-winner against
Oakland City. He leads the team with three goals on the
year.
Lake Erie Storm
Lake Erie got a huge win over
Northwood University, 2-1 in overtime on Sunday to move into a tie
for third place in the GLIAC standings. Earlier in the week,
the Storm fell to Saginaw Valley State, 5-1. The golden goal
against Northwood came just 1:12 into the first overtime period as
junior Jake Shelton (Newburg, Md./Webber International University)
got the ball in front of the ball of Northwood’s goal and his
touch found junior Randy Danso (Toronto, Canada/North Count
Community College) who converted the open look. Earlier in
the match, Lake Erie went up 1-0 as junior Ricky Carreira
picked up a rare assist as he corralled a Northwood free kick and
punted a ball which sophomore Danny Eborall (Sheffield,
England/Averett University) beat his defender to on the run
out. Eborall was able to flick the ball by Northwood’s
goalkeeper in the 70th minute. Against Saginaw Valley,
Eborall was the lone source of offense for Lake Erie as he drew a
penalty in the box which was converted into a Storm goal by
sophomore Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Averett University).
Lake Erie has a pair of road matches this week facing Salem
International Wednesday and then taking on GLIAC leader Ohio
Dominican Sunday. The Storm fell to ODU, 2-1, earlier
in the season.
Northwood Timberwolves
Northwood went 0-2 last week,
dropping a 2-0 match at Ashland and a 2-1 overtime contest at Lake
Erie ... Northwood is now 6-3-2 overall, 4-3-2 in the GLIAC ... the
Timberwolves finished the week out-shooting their opponents 19-7
and holding a 13-7 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to earn a
victory ... NU out-shot Ashland 7-2 and Lake Erie 12-5 ...
Northwood will host Findlay and Tiffin this week.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
ODU ran its unbeaten streak to four
games with a 2-2 draw in double overtime at Tiffin on Thursday and
a 3-0 shutout of Findlay at home on Sunday. Junior Andrew Edler
(Hilliard, OH) provided all the offense against the Dragons with
his season’s first score in the 43rd minute and 17 minutes
later at the 60:01 mark with his second goal of the evening.
Against the Oilers on Sunday, the Panthers wasted little time
taking control of the match as senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg,
OH) scored off a junior Casey Weddle’s (Cincinnati, OH) pass
just 1:41 into the game. Sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH)
also tallied his first score of the year, giving ODU a 2-0
advantage in the 43rd minute as he connected on a pass from junior
Tommy Glenn (Pataskala, OH). GLIAC scoring leader, junior Colby
Catlett (Hilliard, OH) added to his season total with his eighth
score in the 67th minute of the second as he one-touched a pass
from freshman Trevor Gates (Gahanna, OH). Senior goalkeeper Andrew
Jones (Worthington, OH) picked up his first collegiate win since
joining the team less than a week earlier, matching the Tiffin game
with four saves. Sunday’s shutout was the first since a 3-0
win over Northwood in last year’s regular season finale. The
Panthers conclude GLIAC play this week with a 7:30 p.m. bout at
Ashland on Thursday, Oct. 20 and 4:30 p.m. battle at home against
Lake Erie on Sunday, Oct. 23.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals
The Saginaw Valley State University
men’s soccer team defeated Lake Erie, 5-1 and tied Ashland
0-0 in double overtime this past weekend. The Cardinals took a
quick 3-0 lead over Lake Erie going into halftime. Saginaw Valley
would take a 4-0 before the Storm would be able to score their only
goal of the contest. Lachlan Savage score the Cardinals final goal
of the contest and his second goal of the game late in the second
half of play allowing them to go on to a 5-1 victory. Saginaw
Valley played Lake Erie today (Oct. 16) and were unable to score
any goals through the entire 110 minutes of play ending the game in
a 0-0 tie in double overtime. With the tie the Cardinals move to
9-2-3 overall on the season, and 5-2-2 in the GLIAC, while the
Eagles move to 3-8-3 overall on the season, and 2-5-2 in the GLIAC.
Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Thursday (Oct. 20) when
they return home to face Tiffin University. Game time is scheduled
for 4:00 pm.
Tiffin Dragons
Tiffin University came back from two deficits against first-place Ohio Dominican, managing to salvage a 2-2 double overtime tie. The Dragons came back the first time when Ashton Campbell came off the bench and drilled home a shot off a pass from Nick Kutch into the left corner to tie the score 1-1. The Dragons forced the overtime when Pierre De Pauw took Michael O’Neill’s corner kick and knocked it into the net in the 66th minute…Overall Jeremy Ashley made 13 saves in 110 minutes…Despite dominating play thoughout the game, Tiffin University found itself trailing 1-0 with just 3:00 remaining in regulation at Urbana. But the Dragons dug deep and tied the game before winning quickly 2-1 in overtime. TU outshot Urbana 14-5 in the second half. Daniel Agosta knocked home a two-touch pass from Emmanuel Adjei and Adam Fussell in the 87th minute to send the game to overtime. Nick Kutch took a pass from James Dores and smashed a goal from 45 yards out, hitting the post and ricocheting in for the gamewinner. Jeremy Ashley got the win in goal, making 4 saves over 93 minutes.
