BAY CITY, Mich. - Tiffin University senior forward Ashton Campbell (Luton, England) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after helping the Dragons go 2-0 and to secure the final spot in the GLIAC tournament last weekend.

Tiffin University senior forward Ashton Campbell had a strong week in helping the Dragons go 2-0 and securing the final spot in the GLIAC tournament. He assisted on the opening goal in a 3-1 win over Ashland, then scored the gamewinner in the 64th minute. He also scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Lake Erie to knock the Storm out of the playoffs, converting a penalty kick in the 60th minute for the win. Campbell currently leads the GLIAC in points (23) and goals (9).

Ashland
Eagles
The Eagles were 1-1 last week to
close the season. The Eagles fell to host Tiffin on Friday, 3-1.
The Dragons scored three goals in the second half and
Ashland’s Danny Lusheck (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) scored
with two seconds remaining. Kenny Hewitt (London, England/Longhill)
registered his seventh assist of the season. The Eagles won their
season finale in a 4-1 rout at Findlay on Sunday. Senior Andrew
Iden (Marysville, Ohio) scored the opening goal for AU. Hewitt
scored twice and Andrew Over scored his first goal of the season in
the win. Iden had the assist on Over’s goal. The Eagles
missed the GLIAC Tournament for the first time in the 4-year
history of the event. They won the last three GLIAC regular season
titles and are the defending tournament champions. The Eagles lose
five seniors from those championship teams.
Findlay Oilers
The University of Findlay was
defeated 3-1 by Lake Erie College on Friday, Oct. 28 in Findlay,
Ohio. Findlay then fell to Ashland University 4-1 in the final game
of the season on Sunday Oct. 30 in Findlay, Ohio. The loss ends
Findlay's season at 3-13-1 overall with a 1-10-1 mark in GLIAC
play.
Lake Erie Storm
Lake Erie went 1-1 on the week and
fell a point short of qualifying for the GLIAC Tournament as it
defeated Findlay, 3-1, and fell to Tiffin, 1-0. The Storm
finished the season .500 in both overall and in GLIAC play, going
8-8-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the GLIAC. It was by far Lake
Erie’s most successful season in its fourth year as a member
of NCAA Division II and second in the GLIAC, as first-year Head
Coach Davie Carmichael took over a squad which went 0-12 in GLIAC
play a season ago. Against Findlay, The Storm struck first in
the 13th minute on a beautiful individual effort from freshman Cory
Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) as he found the bottom
left corner of the goal from 30 yards out and he would seal the
game late with his second goal of the game. Sophomore Danny Eborall
(Sheffield, England/Averett University) also scored his team-high
seventh goal of the season. Against Tiffin, a second half
penalty kick for the Dragons was the lone score, it was the last
game as a member of the Storm for two team members.
Northwood Timberwolves
Northwood went 1-1 last week,
defeated No. 22 Saginaw Valley State 3-2 before falling at 4-1 at
Notre Dame (Ohio) … the Timberwolves end the regular season
8-4-3 overall … NU finished the year 6-3-3 in the GLIAC and
will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament …
the Timberwolves finished the year tied with Ohio Dominican, but
the Panthers will be the No. 2 seed in the event based on ODU going
1-0-1 against Northwood … NU was ranked No. 4 in the NCAA
Midwest Regional Poll last week – before Northwood’s
win over second-ranked SVSU … freshman Joey Censoni
(Rochester, Mich./Adams) netted his first career goal against
Saginaw Valley … his goal with just under three minutes
remaining proved to be the game-winner.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
ODU concluded the regular season
with a pair of key home regional non-conference wins, shutting out
former AMC foe Urbana 3-0 on Tuesday evening and rallying for a 3-2
come-from-behind win on Sunday’s Senior Day against Walsh.
Three Panthers tallied scores this past week, including a pair of
multi-goal efforts by juniors Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) and Tommy
Glenn (Pataskala, OH), while senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH)
recorded one goal in each contest. Edler led the team with five
points behind a pair of second half scores on Tuesday and an assist
on Glenn’s first score on Sunday. Glenn’s first score
in the 71st minute helped spark a comeback that saw ODU turn a 2-0
deficit into a 3-2 lead in just under a 10-minute span as Darko
notched the equalizer off a loose ball in the 76th minute and Glenn
recorded his first game-winner in the 80th minute. Their largest
come-from-behind win of the year extends the Panthers win streak to
a season-best three games. Sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH)
recorded the first multi-assist game of his career on Sunday,
helping on both of Edler’s scores and moving him into a tie
for the team lead with five. Up next, ODU will head to University
Center, Michigan and the campus of Saginaw Valley State for the
GLIAC Tournament, beginning this Thursday, Nov. 3. The
second-seeded Panthers will take on third-seeded Northwood (Mich.)
in the first semi-final, beginning at noon.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals
The Saginaw Valley State University
men’s soccer team split their final weekend of regular season
play, falling to Northwood University 3-2 on Thursday (10/27) and
defeating Malone University 2-1 on Saturday (10/29) in overtime.
Saginaw Valley took the early lead from the Timberwolves but were
unable to hold onto it, as Northwood would come back and score two
goals. The Cardinals scored late in the second haf to knot the
score when Zach Walega scored his first goal of the weekend, but it
was not enough as Northwood would claim the 3-2 victory. Saginaw
Valley would battle from behind against Malone scoring the tieing
goal in the first half of play sending the game into overtime.
Walega found the back of the net for the second time in the weekend
when he beat the keeper off a pass from Lachlan Savage. With the
win Saginaw Valley ended their regular season with a 12-3-3 overall
record. The Cardinals will return to action Thursday (11/3) when
they take on Tiffin in the first round of the GLIAC tournament.
Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
Tiffin Dragons
Tiffin University used a strong offensive attack coupled with good defense to post a solid 3-1 win over visiting Ashland…In the 60th minute, Pierre De Pauw drilled home a two-touch pass from Ashton Campbell and Edison Benda for the first goal of the day. This was followed in the 64th minute by Campbell’s blast off a Benda feed to make it 2-0… Goalkeeper Jeremy Ashley finished with 11 saves in 90 minutes…TU put the nail in the coffin in the 80th minute when Joshua Link took an inside pass from Jingze Quan and scored to make it 3-0…Tiffin University needed a win over Lake Erie College in their final regular season game to knock the Storm out of the GLIAC Tournament and take the final spot. With added motivation playing at home on Senior Day, the Dragons came through with a narrow 1-0 victory to secure a playoff spot…After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, TU took advantage of a push against Ashton Campbell in the box in the 60th minute. Campbell knocked home the penalty kick for the 1-0 score…Goalkeeper Jeremy Ashley made 5 saves over 90 minutes to pick up the victory.
