SVSU's Channell Headlines 2015 CCA Division II All-Midwest Region Men’s Soccer Teams

QUINCY, Ill. – Saginaw Valley State University senior forward Tyler Channell has been named the Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Division II Midwest Region Player of the Year, headlining a group of 26 players named to the All-Midwest Region teams. The CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors. Overall, 10 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's soccer student-athletes were named to the recognition list, including seven first team honorees.

Channell led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in assists (14), points (50) and game-winning goals (8). He ranked second, behind teammate Jordan Kalk, in total goals (18) entering NCAA Tournament play. The Troy, Mich. native is a two-time GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, winning the award this season and as a sophomore in 2013. He was also an all-region standout as a sophomore. Channell currently leads the nation in game-winning goals and ranks fourth in total goals and eighth in total assists. He helped the Cardinals to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Joining Channell on the CCA All-Midwest Region first team are Cedarville's Connor Gilmour (F); Missouri-St. Louis' Jon Huelsman (MF); Northwood's Michael Ankoviak (D), James DeCosemo (F) and Keaton Levock (MF); Quincy's Taylor Reis (MF); Rockhurst's Nick Caruso (D), Paul Deen (D) and Logan Feldman (GK); and Saginaw Valley State's Jordan Kalk (F), Aleksandar Isaevski (D) and Troy Watson (MF).

The all-region second team in comprised of Alderson-Broaddus' Alec Andall (D); Cedarville's Joe Davison (D) and Zachary Harris (MF); Indianapolis' Jacob Meyer (F) and Julian Shamsaie (D); Lake Erie's Joseph Coombs (D) and Anthony Novak (MF); Missouri S&T's Eduardo Abichabki (MF); Northwood's Johannes Sterobo (GK); Quincy's Artan Emini (F); and Rockhurst's Gianluca Bottoni (MF), Kaleb Jackson (F) and Mitch Moncada (F).

The 13 first team all-region players will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released Wednesday, Dec. 3.
