GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Davenport University men's soccer had two student-athletes selected in NCAA Division II District 4, which is comprised of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic, Great Lakes Valley and Great Midwest Athletic conferences. Juniors Carson Brinks (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Brogan Shrimpton (Benoni, South Africa) excelled both on the field and in the classroom this season. Brinks is one of four defenders chosen in the district and carries a 3.83 grade point average in nursing. Shrimpton is one of three forwards chosen in the district and carries a 3.88 grade point average in business management.

Brinks was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC this season and has been a three-year standout on defense. He had five assists this season, which ranked fifth in the GLIAC. He started in all 19 matches and finished with 21 shots and nine shots on goal. He also logged the most minutes of any non-goalkeeper with 1,754.

Shrimpton was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC this season. He had a remarkable season with 19 goals surpassing last year's total of nine. He was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first three weeks of the season and scored 12 goals in the team's first five matches. He scored four goals in a match against Ashland, which was one shy of the school record. He led the GLIAC in goals, points (40) and shots (66). He also scored five game-winning goals to lead the conference.

The Academic All-District® teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the seventh year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
