Northwood's Vaughn, Saginaw Valley's Sinclair Tabbed GLIAC Soccer Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 5 of the 2017 men's soccer season. Northwood senior midfielder James Vaughan earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley junior defender Omar Sinclair claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - James Vaughn, Northwood

Northwood senior midfielder James Vaughan was involved in both Northwood goals last week in a pair of 1-0 victories. He assisted on the goal in the win over Purdue Northwest on a set piece - his ball into the area was headed home. Vaughan then converted a penalty to give Northwood a 1-0 win over GLIAC co-leader Tiffin. Vaughan currently ranks second in the league in goals (six) and points (15) while standing third in assists (three). Northwood is currently tied for the lead in the GLIAC.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Omar Sinclair, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley junior defender Omar Sinclair led the Cardinal defense in securing a pair of clean sheets and 2-0 record over the weekend against Ashland and Davenport. The SVSU defense allowed just five shots to the Eagles on Friday, none of those being put on goal. In Sunday's match against the Panthers, The Cards held the top goal-scoring team in the league scoreless in the shutout. Saginaw Valley remains tied atop the GLIAC standings with Northwood heading into Wednesday's matchup against the Timberwolves.
