Ashland's Ardron, Northwood's Cecchini Gain Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 6 of the 2017 men's soccer season. Ashland sophomore midfielder Thomas Ardron earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Northwood sophomore goalkeeper Corbin Cecchini claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Thomas Ardron, Ashland

Ashland sophomore midfielder Thomas Ardron scored twice in a 3-2 win over visiting Davenport on Sunday. Ardron opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a terrific goal chipped over the keeper from 14 yards, giving AU a 1-0 lead. His second goal was an overtime game-winner as he struck a perfect free kick from 20 yards, hitting his shot over the Davenport wall and tucking it inside the near post. Ardron has four goals this season and finished the week with eight shots, including five on target.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Corbin Cecchini, Northwood

Northwood sophomore goalkeeper Corbin Cecchini had two shutouts in goal for Northwood last week, leading the Timberwolves to a pair of 1-0 victories. He made three saves in a victory over No. 10 Saginaw Valley, one of which was a save on a penalty kick. He then had a pair of saves in NU's 1-0 victory over Northern Michigan. Northwood currently leads the GLIAC by three points.
