GVSU Men, Wayne State Women Lead After Day 1 of 2012 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

JENISON, Mich. - The 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships got underway today at the Jenison Aquatic Center in Jenison, Mich.

The Grand Valley State University women's team  picked up the first win of the day when senior Carly Bush placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:11.49.

GVSU senior David Hayhow got the Lakers' their second win of the evening when he placed first in the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:20.32.

Grand Valley senior Karen Verbrugge kept the win total rising for the Lakers after placing first in the women's 3-meter diving event with a score of 431.30.

Wayne State University picked up its first win of the event when its 200-yard medley relay team came in first place with a time of 1:42.59, which was an NCAA "A" cut.

GVSU continued its hot streak by winning the men's 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:30.05.
