NMUs Emily Brennan and LEC's Julian Milinkovskyi Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Northern Michigan University  freshman Emily Brennan (Great Falls, Mont.) and Lake Erie College freshman Julian Milinkovskyi (Ukraine) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Emily Brennan - Northern Michigan University
Freshman  - Great Falls, Mont.

This past weekend, Northern Michigan freshman Emily Brennan began her college career by setting an NMU pool record and winning three events.  Competing in a tri-meet against St. Cloud State and host Minnesota-Moorhead, Brennan won the 500 freestyle event and set a pool record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:38.99 on Oct. 21.  She followed up the win on Oct. 22 with a win in the 200 and 500 freestyle.  In all, Brennan won a total of three events over the weekend and set one pool record.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GLIAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:
 

 

Julian Milinkovskyi - Lake Erie College
Freshman - Urakaine

Swimming in his first college meets, freshman Julian Milinkovskyi (Ukraine) went six-for-six in winning his individual races in Lake Erie College's opening weekend of swimming against Urbana University and the University of Findlay. Milinkovskyi hit two NCAA 'B' Cut times, in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and 200 Yard IM.  On Friday, Milinkovskyi took the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:44.21), 200 Yard IM (1:59.51) and 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:09.74).  Two of Milinkovskyi's set new Lake Erie records. On Saturday, Milinkovskyi flew through the sprints winning the 200 Yard IM (1:53.06), 100 Yard Freestyle (47:15) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (57:84).  Both 100 yard races were new Storm records. Milinkovskyi holds the top GLIAC time in three of his five races and is second in the other two.
