UI's Maura Donahue and LEC's Ivan Cizmar Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - University of Indianapolis junior Maura Donahue (Milan, Mich.) and Lake Erie College freshman Ivan Cizmar  (Zagreb, Croatia) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Maura Donahue – University of Indianapolis

Junior  -  Milan, Mich.

Maura Donahue won three events at the Patrick Woehnker Invitational hosted by Wabash College over the weekend. Donahue started on Friday night by winning the 1,650 free in a NCAA "B" cut of 17:07.96, which makes her third-fastest in UIndy history. She then won the 400 individual medley on Saturday in a "B" cut of 4:37.87, which moves her into eighth on the UIndy all-time list. Donahue also teamed with Julia Madeira, Julia Walters and Meghan Donahue to win the 200 free relay in 1:37.84. Donahue also registered a runner-up finish in the 200 breast in 2:28.72, which puts her eighth on the UIndy all-time list in the event.

 

 

 

 

GLIAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:

 

 Ivan Cizmar – Lake Erie College
Freshman -   Zagreb, Croatia

Freshman Ivan Cizmar reached the NCAA "A" cut time in the 200-yard backstroke at the five-team Corbiere-Merion Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University. In doing so he became the first swimmer in Storm history to qualify for the National Meet. Cizmar's time of 1:47.63 is one of the fastest in the nation this season and will send him to Mansfield, Texas March 14-17 for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Cizmar won that race by over 11 seconds and it was far from his only accomplishment on the day.  The freshman also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.37) and set a NCAA "B" cut time in the 100-yard backstroke (51:93), winning the race.  On Sunday, Cizmar set another NCAA “B” Cut time in the 400-yard IM in 4:03.06, finishing second to teammate Julian Milinkovskyi.  He was also part of three winning relay teams on the weekend, the 200-yard medley, 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley.
