AU's Maura Anderson and GVSU's Aaron Beebe Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) and Grand Valley State University senior Aaron Beebe (Grandville, Mich.) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

GLIAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:

 

Maura Anderson – Ashland University
Senior - Lakewood, Ohio

Ashland senior Maura Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio) set school records in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes while competing at the Eastern Michigan Invitational last weekend. She won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.08, which leads the nation. She clocked in at 2:18.64 in the 200 breaststroke. Anderson was third in the 200 individual medley at 2:06.12 and fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.12 seconds. She was also a part of three top-3 relay teams, including the 200 and 400 medleys. Anderson led off the 400 freestyle relay with a split of 51.74 seconds. Ashland was fourth in the six-team field at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.

 

 

 

 
GLIAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:

 

Aaron Beebe - Grand Valley State University
Senior - Grandville, Mich.

Grand Valley State senior Aaron Beebe (Grand Haven, Mich.) turned in an incredible weekend in the pool at the 2011 Calvin College Winter Invitational. Beebe Hit NCAA DII "A" marks in eight events and was a part of three relays that hit "A" marks and one relay that hit a "B" standard.

Aaron hit "A" marks individually in the 200 free (1:36.56), 200 fly (1:45.97), 100 fly (48.26), 200 IM (1:49.51) and 400 IM (3:54.09). Beebe set GVSU school records in the 200 IM (1:49.51), 400 IM (3:54.09) and 200 free (1:36.56) and was a part of the school-record setting 200 medley relay (1:29.64). Aaron's 400 IM time broke the previous record by over eight seconds. Beebe now holds the GVSU top time all-time in seven different events. In addition, Beebe set seven Calvin College pool records.
