CANTON, Ohio - The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams claimed the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Ashland University at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.

The Wayne State women's team placed first with a total of 861.5 points, outdistancing second-place University of Indianapolis (554.5 points) by over 300 points. Northern Michigan University finished in third place with 512 points. The Warriors held on to first place on the strength of some impressive individual performances. Senior Sarah Maraskine placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.00, while junior Carol Azambuja recorded a GLIAC record and NCAA A-cut time of 50.09 while taking first in the 100-yard freestyle. Senior Carly Sevald posted a first-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition for the Warriors, recording 459.40 points.
The WSU men's team narrowly edged out second-place Grand Valley State University by 16.5 points (780-763.5 points). The University of Indianapolis finished in third place in the men's standings with 559.5 points. The Warriors got a first place finish from sophomore Lucas Fernandez Vilanova who recorded an NCAA A-cut time of 1:46.67 in the 200-yard backstroke, while junior Kristian Larsen placed first in the in the 100-yard freestyle (45.34).
