TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin University will add men's
and women's swimming and diving to its athletics mix for the
2013-14 athletic season.
"This marks the beginning of another exciting chapter in Tiffin's
growth," said Tiffin University Athletic Director Lonny Allen. "It
will provide another option for student-athletes who are looking
for an excellent undergraduate education and provides us with
another conference sport to compete in."
The school is actively looking for a head coach, but Allen said
there is adequate time to put things in place for the fall season.
Tiffin does not have an aquatics facility, but has reached an
agreement with the local YMCA to compete and practice at its
facility.
Tiffin, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference, joins nine other GLIAC schools in sponsoring women's
swimming and diving, while seven GLIAC schools currently offer
men's swimming and diving. Wayne State, Grand Valley State,
Indianapolis, Northern Michigan, Ashland, Hillsdale, Findlay,
Lewis, and Lake Erie offer women's programs, while Wayne State,
Grand Valley State, Indianapolis, Ashland, Lewis, Lake Erie, and
Findlay offer men's programs. Wayne State was the NCAA Division II
Women's National Champion last season.
Tiffin now sponsors 23 sports, 22 at the NCAA Division II level: football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, indoor men's and women's track and field, outdoor men's and women's track and field, men's and women's swimming and diving, baseball, softball, women's volleyball and men's wrestling. Tiffin also offers equestrian which competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
