GENEVA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving squad became the first team in the 35-year history of the GLIAC Championship meet to break the 1,000-point plateau eclipsing the all-time mark of 952 points set 27 years ago (1987) by Oakland University.  The first-place finish marks the fourth consecutive league title and ninth in the last 12 years for the Warrior men.

Wayne State finished with 1,011.5 points to second-place Grand Valley's total of 894.5.  Ashland was third with 500 points and was followed by Malone (368.5), Lake Erie (266), Tiffin (257) and Findlay (195.5).

Head coach Sean Peters was named GLIAC Men's Coach of the Year for the 10th time in the last 13 seasons.  He was been selected as either the GLIAC Men's Coach of the Year, the Women's Coach or both, every year since 2002.

Junior Dylan Szegedi (Oregon, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales) was voted GLIAC Male Diver of the Year after winning the three-meter event on Saturday with a score of 532.30.  Szegedi, who was the GLIAC Male Diver of the Year his freshman season in 2012, won his second career one-meter GLIAC title on Thursday with a score of 531.50.

In the three-meter diving event, Szegedi's score was more than 120 points higher than the second-place finisher teammate Adam Littell (Holland, Mich. / Hamilton), who scored 409.95 points.  Junior Kevin White (Warren, Mich. / Cousino) completed the top three sweep for the Warriors with a score of 397.60.

The Saturday evening finals began with WSU claiming four of the top 10 spots in the 1650 free.  Senior Jordan Papp (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) was second with a time of 16:06.10.  He was followed by teammates Jack Dischler (Macomb, Mich. / Henry Ford II) and Kyle Taylor (Holland, Mich.) in sixth (16:17.45) and ninth (16:33.64), respectively.  Mitch Bohr (Novi, Mich. / Walled Lake Western), Calvin Reder (Bay City, Mich. / John Glenn) and Cameron Fryzel (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) rounded out the Warrior scorers in the 1650 free.

In the 100 free, freshman Till Barthel (Hannover, Germany) won the event with an NCAA "B" cut time of 44.31.  Senior Kristian Larsen (Frederiksberg, Denmark) was third (44.93), while sophomore Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich.) was 11th (46.00).

WSU had three of the top five finishers in the 200 back led by GLIAC Champion Juan David Molina Perez (Medellin, Colombia), who had an NCAA "A" cut time of 1:46.08.  Junior Lucas Fernandez Vilanova (Valencia, Spain) placed third (1:48.64), while freshman Soren Holm (Rodovre, Denmark) was fifh (1:50.15).  Freshman Zach Zylstra (Zeeland, Mich. / Zeeland East) placed seventh (1:51.02) to complete the Warrior scoring in the 200 back.
