Wayne State's Novichenko and Jachowicz Named GLIAC Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively

BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University junior Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) and junior Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

GLIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:

Kristina Novichenko - Wayne State University
Junior  - Seversk, Russia

Wayne State University junior Kristina Novichenko dipped below three NCAA "B" cut qualifying marks Friday at Eastern Michigan University, as she earned three individual victories for Wayne State. Novichenko topped the NCAA "A" cut mark in the 200-yard butterfly, breaking the two-minute mark with a winning time of 1:59.67. She won the 1000-yard freestyle by more than 23 seconds, touching the wall with a NCAA "B" cut time of 10:11.89. Her third win came in the 100-yard butterfly, as she finished with a "B" cut time of 55.80. Novichenko has dipped below NCAA qualifying standards in five different individual events during the 2013-14 season.

 

 

 

 

  

GLIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:

Piotr Jachowicz - Wayne State University
Junior- Lodz, Poland

Wayne State University junior Piotr Jachowicz swam two NCAA "B" cut qualifying times Friday at Eastern Michigan University in the Warriors last full meet of the regular season. Jachowicz had times of 55.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1:50.35 in the 200-yard IM on his way to winning both events for Wayne State. He won the 200-yard IM by more than six seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke by nearly two seconds. Jachowicz, the 2013 GLIAC Men's Swimmer of the Year, also led WSU to a NCAA "B" cut time in the 200-yard medley relay. Jachowicz swam the second leg of the relay, the breaststroke, as WSU collectively finished with a time of 1:30.44."
