BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University junior Thomas Ducret (Paris, France) earned GLIAC Men's Tennis "Athlete of the Week" honors after a posting 3-0 combined singles and doubles mark for the week.

Wayne State University junior Thomas Ducret defeated
Findlay’s Kyle Collette 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 at No. 1
singles in Friday’s match to give the Warriors the sweep of
the singles flights from the Oilers. Ducret was 1-0 at No. 3
doubles, playing with Oscar Gamarra on Friday winning 8-2. On
Saturday, Ducret downed Tiffin’s Luiz Carvalho 6-2, 6-3 at
No. 1 singles. Currently, Ducret has an overall singles record of
12-8 and is 5-3 in league play with a doubles record of 12-8
overall and 5-2 GLIAC record.

Ferris State Bulldogs
The Ferris State University
men’s tennis squad kept its strong play going last Thursday
(April 12) as the Bulldogs pulled out a hard-fought 5-4 win over
West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in Allendale. The Bulldogs
improved to 13-6 overall and wrapped up Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season action with an 8-1
conference mark after the key regional and league triumph.
GVSU dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-3 in the GLIAC. FSU entered the
match ranked 46th nationally along with sixth in the region with
the Lakers listed 10th in the latest regional poll. Ferris State
built a 2-1 advantage after doubles play with wins at the first and
third spots in the lineup. FSU then split the six singles
flights to earn the victory. The three Bulldog singles
triumphs came at the final three positions in the lineup. Tyler
Marengo was a double-winner for the Bulldogs versus Grand Valley
State in the road encounter. FSU will take part in the 2012 GLIAC
Tournament currently scheduled for April 20-22 in Midland,
Mich.
Findlay
Oilers
Findlay went 0-2 last week losing
to Wayne State and Northwood. The Oilers will next compete as the
No. 7 seed in the GLIAC Tournament in Midland, Mich.
Grand Valley State Lakers
GVSU concluded its regular season with a 5-4 loss to Ferris
State. The Lakers then had a strong showing at the GRCC/Davenport
collegiate tournament, winning seven of the eight singles bracket.
GVSU will be the fourth seed in the upcoming GLIAC tournament
beginning on Friday.
Lake Erie Storm
Lake Erie has finished the 2012 season with a 0-14 overall record and 0-9 in the GLIAC.
Lake Superior State Lakers
The Lakers finished their season
5-12 overall and 2-7 in the GLIAC. The Lakers defeated Lake Erie
9-0 and lost 7-2 to Ohio Dominican. Dane Fosgard (St. Clair, Mich.)
played a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles winning 6-1, 6-7,
10-7 over Lake Erie. Against ODU the Lakers had three singles
matches that ended in third-set tiebreakers; Baptista won 3-6, 6-1,
6-1 at No. 1, Gaberiel-Oliveira lost 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, and Ryne
DuShane (Holland, Mich.) lost 6-7, 6-4, 12-10.
Michigan Tech Huskies
Michigan Tech went 1-1 this past
week in two GLIAC matches. The Huskies lost to Ohio Dominican 5-4
and then beat Lake Erie 9-0. MTU will be the N. 6 seed in the
upcoming GLIAC Tournament.
Northwood Timberwolves
The Northwood University men's tennis team defeated Tiffin 9-0 and Findlay 8-1 this past week. Northwood is still undefeated with a record of 11-0 overall and 8-0 in the league. Northwood will next compete at Wayne State before the GLIAC Tournament.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
The Ohio Dominican University men’s tennis team went 2-1 last week with two GLIAC wins over Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. The lost came at Northern Kentucky in a non-conference match. The Panthers will travel to Cedarville (Ohio) before starting the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
Tiffin Dragons
TU fell in its two matches this
week, falling to Northwood 9-0 and Wayne State 8-1. Kyle Johnson
won the lone match of the week for TU, posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory
over the Warriors...Tiffin’s 13 wins this season ties the
single season record for victories, with the Dragons having one
regular season game remaining at Walsh on April 18.
Wayne State Warriors
The Warriors put themselves in a position to play for a share the GLIAC regular-season title on their home court on Wednesday against Northwood after defeating both Findlay and Tiffin 8-1 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Warriors swept all six singles flights from the Oilers on Friday thanks in part to a strong match from junior Thomas Ducret (Paris, France). Ducret edged UF’s Kyle Collette 4-6, 6-4, 12-10. On Saturday, WSU and Tiffin were forced to move to an off-campus indoor location, but that didn’t faze the Warriors, who swept all three doubles flights and took five of six singles matches from the Dragons.
