AU Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Sweep Post-Season Awards

University Center, Mich. -- Ashland University Men's Indoor Track and Field team swept the post season awards at the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) conference championship. Joe Horn (Waynesfield, Ohio) was named the "Track Athlete of the Year", Mike Jeffery (Dexter City, Ohio) claimed "Field Athlete of the Year" honors. Carlin Isles (Massillon, Ohio) was tabbed as "Freshman of the Year" and Jud Logan garnered "Coach of the Year" accolades.

Joe Horn - AU Track Athlete of the Year
Joe Horn ~ Ashland University
Junior ~ Waynesfield, Ohio
Junior Joe Horn took top honors in the 400 (48.86) and placed second in the 200 (21.68). He currently has the fifth best time of the season in Division II in the 200. Horn also was part of the 4X400 relay team that took second place. Horn has also been a part of the football team, which has made the playoffs each of the past two seasons.

 

 

Mike Jeffery - AU Field Athlete of the Year
Mike Jeffery ~ Ashland University
Sophomore ~ Dexter City, Ohio
Sophomore Mike Jeffery took the top spot in the weight throw with a toss of 68-9 (20.95m) at the conference meet. It marked a Ryder Arena record. He currently has the longest toss in the weight throw in the nation in Division II.

 

 

Carlin Isles - AU Freshman of the Year
Carlin Isles ~ Ashland University
Freshman ~ Massillon, Ohio
Freshman Carlin Isles took first place in the 60m dash (6.77) and the long jump (23-6). He was also part of the 4X400 team that finished in second place. In the 200, he finished in third place. Isles has the sixth best long jump mark the fifth best 60m dash time and the 10th best 200m dash time in the nation this season. Earlier this season, he set the school record in the 60m dash.

 

 

Jud Logan - AU Coach of the Year
Jud Logan ~ Ashland University
Jud Logan is in his fourth year as the head coach of Ashland’s men’s and women’s track and field teams. This is the first time that he has coached the men to an indoor track and field conference title. He also coached the women to a second place finish at the conference meet this season. Last year, he coached the men’s outdoor team to a third-place finish.
