USTFCCCA All-Region Awards for 2012 Division II Indoor Track & Field Announced

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named All-Region honorees for indoor track & field in Division II. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 indoor season.

A total of 1,012 athletes receive 1,476 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.

On the men’s side, MSU Moorhead’s Derek Bredy led the nation with six all-region performances, notching recognition in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x400 relay, long jump, and triple jump. Maurus Hope (Northwest Nazarene), Dominique Hubert (Grand Canyon), Cornell Leffler (Neb.-Kearney), Ronnie Roberson (Kentucky State), and Jaion Rayford (Alabama-Huntsville) followed with four all-region honors apiece.

New Mexico Highlands’ Jillisa Grant and Mount Olive’s Alaytra Carswell earned the most all-region plaudits among the nation’s women with five. Grant’s nods came in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 60 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump while Carswell earned spots on the list in the 60, 200, 400, 800, and 4x400 relay. Sixteen more athletes earned all-region honors in four events.

In the team count, Alabama-Huntsville led all squads with 42 nods, followed by Southern Connecticut (30) and Grand Canyon (25). Alabama-Huntsville also picked up the most honors on the women’s side with 35, followed by Grand Valley State (29) and Adams State (24).
