GVSU's Witt and AU's Loughney Chosen As GLIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field "Athletes of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University senior Anthony Witt (Jasonville, Ind./Shakamak) and Ashland University senior Ryan Loughney (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) have been chosen as the GLIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field "Athletes of the Week."

Anthony Witt - Grand Valley State University
Senior - Jasonville, Ind./Shakamak

Senior Anthony Witt picked up where he left off in the cross country season on Friday (Dec. 2) at the GVSU Laker Early Bird Open. Witt recorded the second-fastest time in Grand Valley State history in the 5,000 meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:08.72 to finish in third place and hit an NCAA Division II provisional mark in the event, missing the automatic mark by only four seconds.

 

 

 

 

 

GLIAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week:

 

 

 

Ryan Loughney - Ashland University
Senior - Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley

Loughney, finished first in the weight throw at Findlay with a throw of 72 feet, 5.25 inches. That distance is an automatic qualification for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships.  Loughney is the defending national champion in the weight throw. This was AU’s first competition of the season.  During last year’s indoor season Loughney was recognized as the GLIAC male field athlete of the year and the Midwest Region male field athlete of the year.
