Findlay Men, GVSU Women Lead After Day 1 of #GLIACTF Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The University of Findlay men and the Grand Valley State women’s track and field teams are in the lead after the first day of competition at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. 

The Findlay men’s team recorded 37 points on the first day of the event, holding a mere three point advantage over defending champions Grand Valley State (34 points). Ashland, the top-ranked squad in the country, is currently third with 28 points. Alexander Zolotoglavyy placed first in the long jump for the Oilers with a mark of 7.45 meters, which set a fieldhouse record. GVSU's Distance Medley Relay team took home a second place finish with a time of 10:06.23, which is a NCAA provisional.

Defending champions GVSU posted 60.50 points on day one, holding a 14.5 advantage over second place Ashland (46 points), who also rank No. 1 in the nation. Findlay is in third place with 27 points, Hillsdale in fourth with 24 points, and rounding out the top-five is Wayne State with 22 points. In the long jump, Alexis Duncan was first for the GVSU Lakers with a leap of 5.84 meters, an NCAA provisional mark. Teammate Alexandra Kitz claimed gold in the pole vault with a mark of 3.81 meters, also a provisional qualifying mark.

Day two competition resumes on Sunday morning with the men’s heptathlon at 9:00 a.m. and field events beginning at 10:30 a.m. Running finals will begin at 12:15 p.m. with the women’s mile.
