BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Hillsdale's women along with Findlay and Grand Valley State's men finished runner-up to strongly represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) at the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships on March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala. Ashland's women finished third and were also fourth on the men's side. GVSU's women also took sixth place, while Tiffin took sixth place for the men.

Day Two - Saturday
In the women's shot put, junior Jamie Sindelar was runner-up with a mark of 15.64 meters. Teammates sophomore Megan Tomei was third (15.28), and senior Shatora Lewis was sixth with a mark of 14.59 meters, while senior Jessica Bridenthal was seventh with a mark of 14.50 meters. Senior Kendra Averesch from Findlay was fifth with a throw of 14.99. Senior Samantha Johnson from Ferris State finished seventh in the mile with a time of 4:53.79. Freshman Irene Skinner from Ashland claimed the eighth spot in the 400 with a time of 57.13. Saginaw Valley State's sophomore Taylor Stepanski was second in the 800 with a time of 2:09.49, earning her second All-American status of the weekend. Junior Emily Oren of Hillsdale broke a 30 year old record in the 3000 meter run, posting a time of 9:16.81 to finish first. The record was originally set in 1985. Teammate junior Kristina Galat was second in the same race with a time of 9:20.46. Also in the top-8 was junior Amy Cymerman, finishing sixth with a time of 9:37.28. Junior Lydia Guagenti from Findlay finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.76. Ashland's senior Jennifer Foster was tied with Guagenti. Hillsdale's 1600 meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:47.86.
Senior Joseph Postwaite from Lake Erie recorded a mark of 15.52 meters in the triple jump to finish first, and freshman Michael Bruce from Findlay was fourth with a mark of 15.15 meters. Grand Valley State's junior Sean Wells and Ashland's Elijha Owens went first ands second in the 60 meter hurdles with times of 7.78 and 7.84. In the 400 meter race, Hillsdale's Lane White was fourth with a time of 47.64, followed by Ashland's Owens in fifth with a time of 47.85. Ashland took first in the 800 after a strong performance by senior Drew Windle. Windle crossed the finish line with a time of 1:49.24. GVSU's junior Ethan Barnes was third (1:50.40), and Findlay's senior Dillion Webster was seventh with a time of 1:52.20. Tiffin sophomore Lamar Hargrove claimed a national title in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.95. The men's shot put proved to be a strong outing for the GLIAC, placing five within the top-8. Sophomore Justin Dieck from Lake Superior State took home the title with a mark of 17.67 meters. Findlay's senior Taylor Miller was second (17.45), senior Mathieu Marcoccia was sixth (17.15), and senior Justin Welch was eighth (16.90). Freshman Jared Schipper placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 5.05 meters. Tiffin's junior Theo Mancheron was eighth in the same event. Findlay's 1600 relay team finished third with a time of 3:14.07 while Tiffin placed sixth with a time of 3:14.45.
Day One - Friday
On the women's side, Ashland's senior Shatora Lewis finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 20.30 meters while teammate senior Jessica Bridenthal was fifth (18.95 meters). Grand Valley State's junior Laura Schroeder finished eighth with a mark of 18.12 meters. In the Pole Vault, junior Jamie Roberts from GVSU finished third with a height of 4.00 meters, and teammate senior Jennifer Schornak was seventh with a mark of 3.75 meters. Grand Valley State placed first and fifth in the 5000 meter run. Junior Amy Cymerman took first with a time of 16:34.13 while sophomore Kendra Foley crossed the finish line with a time of 16:56.38. Hillsdale junior Kristina Galat was second in the even with a time of 16:37.31. In the last event of the evening, Hillsdale's Distance Medley Relay team captured a national title with a time of 11:25.61. Saginaw Valley State placed third (11:31.53) and GVSU was sixth with a time of 11:39.25.
For the men, senior Justin Welch from Findlay captured the men's weight throw title with a throw of 22.07 meters. Junior Darien Thornton from Grand Valley State was second with a mark of 21.38 meters and Ashland's senior Zac Ball was third with a throw of 21.12 meters. GVSU also placed seventh and eighth in the event with junior Jay Lechner taking seventh (19.72 meters), and Blake Donson eighth (19.47 meters). Findlay's freshman Michael Bruce placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.37 meters. In the high jump, Lake Superior State's sophomore Robert Valdez finished second with a mark of 2.21 meters. GVSU's senior Trent CHappell was fourth with a mark of 2.12 meters. Senior Joshua Mirth from Hillsdale finished fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:19.27, followed by GVSU sophomore Bryce Bradley in fifth with a time of 14:20.05. Ashland's Distance Medley Relay team finsihed seventh with a time of 9:55.89.
