Hillsdale, Mich. -- Ashland University's Joe Horn
(Waynesfield, Ohio) and Grand Valley State's Tyler
Emmorey (Cedar Springs, Mich.) were both awarded the
"Track Athlete of the Year" award. Saginaw Valley State's
Eltaro Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich.) claimed "Field
Athlete of the Year" honors, Ashland's Carlin Isles
(Massillon, Ohio) was tabbed as "Freshman of the
Year". Ashland's Jud Logan garnered
"Coach of the Year" accolades at the 2009 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) conference
championship.

Co-Track Athlete of the Year
Joe Horn ~ Ashland University
Junior ~ Waynesfield, Ohio
Junior Joe Horn was named the outstanding performer in
the running events at the GLIAC championships. Horn won the 200,
was the silver medalist in the 400 and was on the 4X100 that took
first place. He was part of the 4X400 relay that finished second.
Horn went to outdoor nationals in the 200, the 400 and both relays.
He is the most valuable athlete in the running events for 2009 in
the Midwest Region.

Year

Junior ~ Waynesfield, Ohio
Junior Tyler Emmorey won the GLIAC title in two separate
events, the 5000-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase. His
time of 14:44.59 in the 5000-meter hit a provisional NCAA mark and
won the GLIAC championship, while his time of 9:06.35 in the
steeplechase automatically qualified him for nationals. Emmorey
qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships
in both the 5000-meter and the 3000-meter steeplechase, as well as
the 1500-meter run.
Field Athlete of the Year
Eltaro Hooper ~ Saginaw Valley State University
Senior ~ Ypsilanti, Mich.
Senior Elarto Hooper finished the GLIAC championships
with two first place finishes.In the triple jump with a distance of
15.23 meters and in the high jump event including an automatic
qualification with a height of 2.17 meters. Hooper is currently
ranked #3 in the high jump after he leaped 2.17 meter and is the
6th seed in the men’s triple jump, with a distance of 15.25
meters.
Freshman of the Year
Carlin Isles ~ Ashland University
Freshman ~ Massillon, Ohio
Sprinter Carlin Isles is the 2009 GLIAC freshman of the
year. At the 2009 GLIAC outdoor championships, the rookie won a
conference championship in the 100 and was part of the 4X100 relay
that captured a gold medal. Isles qualified for nationals indoors
and outdoors.
Coach of the Year
Jud Logan ~ Ashland University
AU head coach Jud Logan was tabbed as the 2009 GLIAC
men’s outdoor track and field coach of the year. This year,
the AU men won their second consecutive outdoor GLIAC crown. This
is the second consecutive year Logan has won the GLIAC award. His
team spent several weeks this spring ranked first in the
nation.Logan is also the Midwest Region men’s coach of the
year.
