BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University senior Anthony Witt (Jasonville, Ind./Shakamak) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's cross country "Runner of the Week" after finishing fourth at the Penn State National Invitational.

Anthony Witt - Grand Valley State University

Senior Anthony Witt finished fourth at the Penn State National
Invitational, competing against mostly Division I competition. Witt
was the highest Division II finisher and helped lead the Lakers to
a second-place finish in the team standings, finishing only eight
points behind host Penn State. He completed the course in a time of
26:26. Witt has been either the first or second-highest finisher
for GVSU in every event he has ran in this season.
Ashland - Ashland will host the GLIAC
Championships this Saturday (Oct. 22) at Brookside Golf Course.
This is the second time Ashland has hosted the conference meet. The
last time was in 2001…AU is ranked third in the region and
24th in the country…AU did not run last week…the
Eagles finished second at last year’s GLIAC Championships
Ferris State - The Ferris State University men's
cross country team stepped up a level in competition and performed
well at the Penn State National meet on Friday (Oct. 14) in State
College, Pa. FSU was 12th of 21 teams in the 5.2 mile race.
Penn State claimed first place (47) followed by Grand Valley State
(55), Duquesne (77), Lehigh (142) and Montana State (177) in the
top five. Junior Tyler Crossman led Ferris State by placing 54th
(27:46). Sophomore David Silversmith came in 58th (27:49)
followed by senior Alex Best in 66th place (27:54) and junior Ryan
Chute in 84th place (28:14). Senior Steve Neshkoff was 109th
(28:45), freshman Spencer Gerber placed 110th (28:46) and junior
Michael Schulte wound up 121st (29:05) for the Bulldogs. Ferris
State will compete in the GLIAC Championships next Saturday, Oct.
22, in Ashland, Ohio.
Findlay - The University of Findlay men's cross
country team won the Wilmington College Fall Classic on Friday,
October 14 in Wilmington, Ohio. The men finished the event
with 78 points as Wright State University came in a close second
with 86 points. Shoayb Bascal led the Oilers and placed 12th at the
event with a time of 25:33.64, the fourth best mark in school
history. Sean Jones took 20th at 26:02.07, Justin Eilerman finished
21st with a time of 26:02.42 and Tim Majoy was 25th after crossing
the finish line in 26:11.45. Jake Hayes (26:28.65), Joe Guerra
(27:08.61), Luis Velasco (27:52.41), Brock Lloyd (28:52.50), Connor
Walthour (28:54.36), Alex Betts (29:42.65) and Dillon Webster
(29:48.96) also competed for Findlay at the event. The Oilers will
now prepare for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(GLIAC) Championship, slated to take place on October 22 in
Ashland, Ohio.
Grand Valley State - The third-ranked Laker cross
country team finished in second place at the Penn State National
Invitational, ran mostly by Division I squads. The Lakers trailed
only host Penn State in the final team standings by a total of
eight points. Seniors Anthony Witt and Tyler Emmorey again ran
stride-for-stride, finishing in fourth and fifth place,
respectively, with times of 26:26 and 26:29. Senior Ryan Toth
finished 10th in the individual standings with a time of 26:53 to
give the Lakers three runners in the top 10. GVSU will now gear up
for this weekend’s GLIAC Cross Country Championships in
Ashland, Ohio on Saturday (Oct. 22).
Hillsdale - Hillsdale College was idle this week
as they prepare for the GLIAC Championship in Ashland, Ohio.
Lake Erie - Lake Erie did not compete this week
and will next be in action at Ashland for the GLIAC Championships
on Oct. 22.
Lake Superior State - The Lakers were off
this week and next compete at the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 22 in
Ashland, Ohio.
Michigan Tech - Michigan Tech had this weekend
off before competing at the GLIAC Championships Oct. 22 in Ashland,
Ohio.
Northwood - Northwood did not race this week and
will run next at the GLIAC Championships October 22 in Ashland,
Ohio.
Ohio Dominican - Under wet and windy conditions,
Ohio Dominican’s men’s squad placed 18th at the
Wilmington Fall Classic Friday afternoon. Five freshmen led the
men’s team, paced by Todd Hewitt (Eaton, Ohio) who led the
team with his 74th place finish, coming in a time of 27:12.42.
Michael Barber (New Franklin, Ohio) was moments behind him in
27:21.27 and Matthew Richardson (Columbus, Ohio) crossed the line
with a mark of 28:03.87. Ethan Miller (Monclova, Ohio) and Jason
Williams (Powell, Ohio) closed out the top five runners for the
Panthers. The men’s race, which featured 298 runners, was won
by Findlay with 78 points. The Panthers scored 472 points.
ODU’s cross country teams will next compete at the GLIAC
Championships, hosted by Ashland University, on Saturday, Oct.
22.
Saginaw Valley State - The Cardinals did not
compete this week and will be back in action Saturday (10/22) when
they compete in the Ashland University hosted GLIAC
Championships.
Tiffin - The Dragon’s were off this week to
prepare for the GLIAC Championship in Ashland, Ohio on October,
22.
Wayne State - The Wayne State University
men’s cross country team conquered the first four positions
including seven of the first 11 spots to earn its second win of the
season at the Raider Run 8K on Saturday hosted by Oakland Community
College. Senior Alex Townsend (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington)
ran to his second career win with a first place time of 26:14,
while senior Kevin deBear (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) came in six
seconds after Townsend in second, posting a time of 26:20. As
junior Jimmy Maloney (Wyandotte, Mich./Wyandotte) (3rd-26:25) and
senior Travis Barczak (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) (4th-26:28)
crossed the finish line in succession, sophomore Nick Jackson
(Washington, Mich./Romeo) tallied a sixth place time of 26:44. It
was junior class finish in the 11th, 13th and 17th positions as
Phil Baldick (27:20) and Jason Smith (Canton, Mich./Salem) (27:23)
crossed seconds apart, while Brad Vincent (28:12) came in just
under a minute after his teammates. Sophomore Abdu Hadarah
(Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) rounded out the top 25 in 24th place
with a mark of 28:54.
