Northwood University to Host 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday

MIDLAND, Mich. - Northwood University will serve as the host for the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's and women's cross country championships that will be held on Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood, Michigan.

The top runners from around the GLIAC will come to Mid-Michigan this weekend, as the Northwood University Cross Country teams will host the GLIAC Championships this Saturday (October 20).

The event will be held at the Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood, MI. The address for the course is: 158 N. Mackinaw Rd, Linwood, MI 48634.

Saturday's event gets under way at 11 a.m. with the women's 6K race. The men's 8K event will begin at 11:45 a.m. Then at 12:30 p.m. there will be an open race, which will be a 6K for the women and an 8K for the men raced simultaneously.

Grand Valley State is the defending champion on both the men's and the women's side. GVSU's head coach Jerry Baltes earned GLIAC Coach of the Year on both sides as well.

Northwood will enter the event with both the men's and women's team showing marked improvement from a year ago. The men's team is led by freshman Enock Rono (Eldoret, Kenya) and junior Marcus Rogers (Howell, Mich./Pinckney), both of whom have turned in strong performances throughout the season. On the women's side, Mary Canze (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) and Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser) have served as Northwood's top competitors this season.

Admission to the GLIAC Championships is free for all spectators.
