NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday the 80 student-athletes who earned All-America honors by finishing among the top 40 at the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships men’s and women’s races.

For the third year in a row, Grand Valley State’s women claimed the national team title, and for the second consecutive year they did so with six All-America honorees. No other team had more than four, a feat accomplished by runner-up Hillsdale and third-place Minnesota Duluth.

Grand Valley State also led all men’s teams with five All-Americans, but the Lakers’ men finished runners-up to three-time defending team champ Adams State. The Grizzlies, along with third-place Augustana (S.D.), were the only two teams to earn four awards apiece,

Not only did the GVSU women lead all teams with six All-Americans, they did so in spectacular fashion en route to a 50-115 win over Hillsdale. Kendra Foley took the individual title for the Lakers, followed in second and third by teammates Allyson Winchester and Jessica Janecke. They were joined by Hannah Osborn in 22nd, Jordan Chester in 34th and Amy Creutz in 27th.

Runner-up Hillsdale had four top-25 finishers in seventh-place Kristina Galat, 12th-place Emily Oren, 23rd-place Molly Oren and 24th-place Hannah McIntyre. Third-place Minnesota Duluth had four in the top 30 behind 14th-place Samantha Rivard, 18th-place Emilee Trost, 25th-place Breanna Colbenson, and 27th-place Hannah Olson.

Teams with three All-Americans were fourth-place Adams State, sixth-place Wayne State (Mich.) and 14th-place Bloomsburg.

Had the GVSU women not gone 1-2-3, the Adams State men would have been the story of the day with two-time individual winner Tabor Stevens, fourth-place Kevin Batt and fifth-place Matt Daniels. Chad Palmer joined that trio in 18th-place to help Adams State to a 69-127 win over GVSU.

Though they bested the Grizzlies as the only men’s team with five All-Americans, the GVSU men had to settle for second place on the team podium. Ninth-place Alan Peterson led the way, followed by teammates Bryce Bradley (27th), Chad Cini (36th), Chris May (37th) and Brady Seiner (39th).

The GLIAC was the best-represented conference for both genders. GVSU, Hillsdale and Wayne State (Mich.) combined for 13 honors on the women’s side, while GVSU, Malone, Ashland and Hillsdale combined for 10 men’s awards.

National Athletes and Coaches of the Year will be announced Tuesday.
