STARKVILLE, Miss. - Saginaw Valley State University ranked 14th in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. The Cardinals are one of two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams, joining Ferris State University, to place in the final poll of 2009.
Saginaw Valley State reached the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional before falling to the University of Indianapolis in the third of a three-game series. The Cardinals finished the 2009 season with a 39-11 record and claimed their second-straight GLIAC tournament title.
Ferris State placed 22nd in the final D-II NFCA poll after garnering a runner-up finish to SVSU in the Midwest Region #2 tournament. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 35-10 record and were ranked in all 11 2009 NFCA polls.
Wayne State University (40-16) and Ashland University (36-14) were each listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" category.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
