EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Indianapolis sophomore Morgan Foley (Louisville, Kentucky) and Grand Valley State University senior shortstop Briauna Taylor (Livonia, Michigan) have been named the Daktronics, Inc. Midwest Region Softball Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively.

Foley finished the season with a 33-8 record inside the pitcher’s circle in 2014. The first-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree compiled a 1.55 ERA and 386 strikeouts this season, including and NCAA Division II record 30 in UIndy’s victory over Rockhurst University in the GLVC Tournament.

Taylor, a first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, hit .413 with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs to help lead the Lakers to a 30-14 overall mark and a berth in the NCAA II Tournament.

The awards for Foley and Taylor mark the second straight season that UIndy and Grand Valley State have garnered Daktronics Midwest Region Pitcher and Player of the Year accolades—UIndy’s Jennifer DeMotte was the 2013 Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year, while Grand Valley State’s Katie Martin was the Midwest Region Player of the Year in 2013.

Joining Foley and Taylor on the All-Midwest Region first team is Bellarmine University junior catcher Scarlett Powers (Brandenburg, Kentucky) and sophomore utility player (pitcher) Ally Foster (Louisville, Kentucky); University of Missouri-St. Louis junior first baseman Brianna Butler (Troy, Illinois); Truman State University junior second baseman Andrea Klipsch (St. Louis, Missouri), senior outfielder Kelsey Bollman (Maquoketa, Iowa), and sophomore pitcher Kindra Henze (Palmyra, Missouri); Grand Valley State senior third baseman Miranda Cleary (Howell, Michigan); UIndy junior outfielder Casey Williamson (Indianapolis, Indiana); Ashland University junior outfielder Taylor Menhart (Twinsburg, Ohio); Ohio Dominican University junior designated player Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio); and University of Southern Indiana utility player (non-pitcher) MacKenzi Dorsam (Dubois, Indiana).
