Lake Superior State's Amanda Maxon Named 2015 GLIAC Softball Player of the Year; Wayne State's Lyndsay Butler Pitcher of the Year

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2015 All-GLIAC Softball Teams and Postseason Awards in conjunction with the Conference's annual Softball Tournament at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. The awards were voted on by the conference softball coaches in ballot format.

Lake Superior State senior Amanda Maxon, a senior second baseman/utility player from Munising, Mich., was selected the 2015 GLIAC Player of the Year after leading the GLIAC and ranking seventh nationally in overall batting average at .476. She ranked sixth nationally in overall on-base percentage at .577. Overall, she also led the GLIAC in average RBI per game (1.03). In GLIAC competition, Maxon led the league in on-base percentage (.544) and ranked fourth in batting average at .426. She had a fielding percentage of .951. Maxon totaled a school-record 23 career home runs, including six this season, and finished second on LSSU's all-time list in career hits (146), RBI (91) and batting average (.377). Maxon suffered a season-ending injury with eight games remaining in the 2015 schedule.

Ohio Dominican's Taylor Kline earned GLIAC Softball Freshman of the Year honors as voted on by the GLIAC coaches. Kline posted the seventh highest batting average in a single season at ODU, and first since 2009 to hit over .400. She led the GLIAC with 27 stolen bases and third in the conference in hits and runs scored. Kline ranked fourth in the GLIAC in batting average, and sixth in OBP, leading the team in most offensive categories. She stole a conference high three bases in a single game on two different occasions.

Wayne State sophomore Lyndsay Butler has been voted GLIAC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season. Butler, who helped lead the Warriors to the league's regular-season title, led the GLIAC in ERA (0.62) for conference games.  She also had the best marks in league play for shutouts (7), strikeout/walk ratio (11.6-1), winning percentage (86% - 12-2) and strikeouts per game [with at least 50 IP] (9.6).  Butler tied for first in saves (3), finished second in wins (12), strikeouts (139) and complete games (13), and did not allow a home run in 101.1 innings pitched (383 batters faced). In two seasons of GLIAC play, Butler has compiled a 21-3 record with five saves and 233 strikeouts to 20 walks in 167.2 innings.  She has allowed 20 runs (16 earned) for a 0.67 career ERA.

Warrior head coach Gary Bryce has been selected GLIAC Coach of the Year by his peers for the 11th time in his illustrious 34-year career at WSU. Wayne State won its 10th GLIAC regular season title under Bryce with a 22-4 conference record this year.  Last weekend, Bryce moved into 14th place on the all-time NCAA wins list with his 1,154th career victory.  The 2008 NFCA Hall of Fame inductee, has compiled a career GLIAC regular-season record of 462-209-2 for a .688 winning percentage.
