SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The No. top-seeded Grand Valley State Lakers captured the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Tournament Championship after they defeated No. 2 Davenport on Sunday (May 6) at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky, Ohio. GVSU earned the title by a 1-0 margin in 11 innings of action to claim its fourth GLIAC Softball Tournament title in program history and first since 2006.

RECAP: An epic battle featuring two of the top pitchers in the conference went 11 scoreless innings before GVSU shortstop Shannon Flaherty tripled to right center field driving home Tanner Kiessel for the championship-clinching run. Flaherty recorded three of GVSU's eight hits in the contest to give GLIAC Pitcher of the Year Allison Lipovsky a hard-fought victory after she compiled 11 innings of shutout ball allowing three hits and one walk while striking out nine Panthers on 140 pitches. Davenport pitcher Mallory Teunissen finished with 10.2 innings allowing eight hits, four walks and eight strikeouts on 183 pitches.
