GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the tenth week of the 2018 season. Davenport freshman Rachel Griffin earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State junior Allison Lipovsky captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Rachel Griffin, Davenport
Davenport freshman Rachel Griffin powered her way into the spotlight this week as the Panthers went 4-2. DU moved into second place in the GLIAC in part to the freshman who batted .550 going 11-for-20. Griffin scored five runs and collected two doubles and two homers with 12 RBI. She had the first multi-home run game of her career in the 11-9 game one win over Tiffin on Wednesday and finished with a career-high four RBI. She then drove in four more runs in game two against the Dragons in a 12-4 win going 3-for-4 with a double. She is batting .406 in her last 10 games with a team-high 15 RBI.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State's Allison Lipovsky earned a pair of victories over Purdue Northwest and Ashland, while tossing five innings of relief against Davenport, en route to helping secure the 2018 GLIAC Regular Season Title. In a 2-0 win over the Pride, Lipovsky tossed a complete game two-hitter as she struck out 14 PNW batters while walking just one. Against Ashland, Lipovsky tallied another complete game shutout, as she struck out 11 batters to just one walk. In a pair of relief performances against the Panthers, Lipovsky tossed five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 10.
In all, Lipovsky tallied 19.0 inning pitched, allowed 0 runs on 10 hits, and struck out 35 batters while walking just two. The righty also earned the second save of her career in game two against Davenport.
