GVSU sweeps Week 2 softball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 2 of the 2019 season. Grand Valley State garnered the sweep as Allison Lipovsky was the pitcher of the week and Nikoma Holmen the player of the week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Nikoma Holmen - Grand Valley State

Sophomore first baseman Nikoma Holmen (Wyoming, Mich.) helped GVSU to a 3-1 record at the Lewis Dome Tournament, including wins over #15 Winona State and #12 Illinois Springfield. She went 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate, recording three doubles, a homer and four total RBIs. She homered in her first at-bat of the season against Lindenwood. Holmen combined to go 7-of-7 on the second day of play, recording three RBI's and three doubles. She scored five runs, and compiled fielding totals of 23 putouts, four assists and one error.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky - Grand Valley State

Senior Allison Lipovsky (Harrison, Mich.) helped GVSU to two wins over nationally-ranked teams at the Lewis Dome Tournament. She pitched an eight-inning shutout against No. 15 Winona State (W, 1-0). She struck out nine, walked two and allowed just two hits against the Warriors. Lipovsky pitched another complete game shutout (5 innings) against No. 12 Illinois Springfield (W, 17-0), striking out three to just one walk and two hits. Totaled 12 Ks to just 3 walks and four hits.
