Davenport's Flores and Northwood's Wright pick up Week 7 softball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 7 of the 2019 season. Davenport junior first baseman/designated hitter Alexa Flores was named Player of the Week, while Northwood sophomore Taylor Wright was the Pitcher of the Week.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Alexa Flores - Davenport

Junior first baseman/designated hitter Alexa Flores (Commerce, Mich.) warmed up along with the weather this week for the Panthers, who picked up four wins. She went 10-for-16 at the dish with six runs, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. She did not strike out in 16 at-bats and reached base at a .667 clip in wins over Walsh, Ferris State and Parkside.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Taylor Wright - Northwood

Sophomore Taylor Wright (Millington, Mich.) went 2-0 with a 1.27 earned run average in two starts for Northwood last week. She struck out 22 batters in 11 innings while walking just three. She went five innings in a 6-2 win against Purdue Northwest, allowing one run on five hits while striking out 10. Then in Northwood's 8-2 victory over Parkside, she allowed one earned run and three hits in six innings while striking out 12.
