GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 8 of the 2019 season. Ashland junior designated player Dayna Denner was named Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State senior Allison Lipovsky was the Pitcher of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Dayna Denner - Ashland
Ashland junior designated player Dayna Denner (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) slashed a .588 batting average, .682 on-base percentage and 1.294 slugging over six games for the 3-3 Eagles last week, going 10-for-17 with eight runs scored, three doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. Denner had four multi-hit games and four multi-RBI contests in the week, including a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort in Game 1 at Parkside on April 6.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky - Grand Valley State
Senior Allison Lipovsky (Harrison, Mich.) picked up her fourth GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honor after going 4-0 with two wins over Northwood and wins over Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State. She threw 22.0 innings and allowed just two runs on 12 hits. Lipovsky struck out 37 batters to just two walks. She tallied three complete games and came in against the Timberwolves for two innings where she secured the win. She allowed just one hit and no runs in a win over SVSU where she struck out 12 and walked none. Lipovsky leads the GLIAC in wins (15), earned run average (0.52) and strikeouts (168).
