GVSU's Plocinski and WSU's Guitar claim Week 9 softball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 9 of the 2019 season. Grand Valley State sophomore Kaitlyn Plocinski was named Player of the Week, while Wayne State senior Megan Guitar was the Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Kaitlyn Plocinski - Grand Valley State

Sophomore catcher/infielder Kaitlyn Plocinski (Geneva, Ill.) hit .591 in six games, going 13-for-22. She tallied five extra-base hits, including four doubles and a homer while also knocking in 8 RBI. She finished the week with a .625 on-base percentage and .909 slugging percentage. She went 4-for-6 with two RBI in a doubleheader series win over Davenport. Plocinski tallied a season-high thre RBI in a 12-3 win over Purdue Northwest after going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Megan Guitar - Wayne State

Senior pitcher Megan Guitar (Croswell, Mich.) tossed a pair of shutouts last week, 4-0 over Saginaw Valley and 7-0 against Ashland. She blanked SVSU on five hits, then held Ashland scoreless on seven hits. Guitar struck out seven and did not walk a batter in 14 innings. Defensively in the circle, she was perfect in six chances (3 putouts, 3 assists) and even made a diving catch on a bunt that turned into a double play.
