SVSU's Popko and GVSU's Lipovsky garner softball player of the week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 10 of the 2019 season. Saginaw Valley State freshman Jackie Popko was named Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State senior Allison Lipovsky was the Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Jackie Popko - Saginaw Valley State

Freshman outfielder Jackie Popko (Macomb, Mich.) hit .643 (9-of-14) with three home runs and 11 RBI during last week's games against Grand Valley State and Ferris State. She slugged 1.286 in the four road contests.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky - Grand Valley State

Senior pitcher Allison Lipovsky (Harrison, Mich.) went 4-0 with four complete games and three shutouts last week. She tallied 39 strikeouts and just seven walks in 29.0 innings. Lipovsky averaged 9.41 strikeouts per seven innings pitched while allowing just one run for a 0.24 earned run average. She recorded two games off 11 Ks and came in for three innings of relief in a win over Saginaw Valley State, striking out four and walking one.
