BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Hillsdale sophomore Anika Ellingson earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State senior Danny Abbott captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Anika Ellingson, Hillsdale
Hillsdale College sophomore Anika Ellingson recorded a pair of terrific performances at Calvin College Saturday. She captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06, just three seconds off the school record she owns. She later took second in the 200 breaststroke, leading the Chargers in points scored in the meet. Ellingson hails from Lichtifield, Minnesota.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Danny Abbott, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State senior sprinter Danny Abbott tallied a first-place finish in the 50 free (21.00) Saturday afternoon at Calvin College. Abbott also led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 free (45.69). The Lakers closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay as Walling, Little, Ham and Abbott touched the wall in 3:07.69.
