GVSU's Nabih, NMU's Spajic Garner GLIAC Swimming Weekly Laurels

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Northern Michigan freshman Gabriella Spajic earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Grand Valley State sophomore Ahmed Nabih captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Gabriella Spajic, Northern Michigan

Northern Michigan freshman Gabriella Spajic finished two meets at St. Cloud State University with four first place finishes.  Her winning time of two minutes, 07.98 seconds in the 200-yard butterfly is currently the second-best time in NCAA division II.  

She also placed the nation’s sixth-best time in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:35.48. Spajic rounded out her weekend with a 5:09.82 time in the 500-yard freestyle and a time of 58.40 in the 100-yard butterfly. 


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ahmed Nabih, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Ahmed Nabih finished first in the 200 IM (1:53.77) and first in the 200 breast (2:02.91) versus Lewis in the Lakers’ 189-53 win. His time of 2:02.91 is currently second overall in NCAA Division II and his 1:53.77 in the 200  IM ranks 10th.  Nabih also finished first in the 200 free versus Calvin (1:44.69) and added a 56.75 in the 100 breast.
