Saginaw Valley's Thielen & Yap Claim GLIAC Swimming Weekly Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its sixth weekly awards for the swimming and diving season. Saginaw Valley junior Amanda Thielen earned GLIAC Female Athlete of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley senior Shaun Yap captured GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors for the second straight week as the Cardinals earned the sweep.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Amanda Thielen, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley junior Amanda Thielen had an impressive weekend for the Cards at the 2017 Magnus Cup Invitational at Cleveland State University. She posted a time of 2:02.16 in the 200 Back, which ranks her fifth in the nation and is an NCAA B Standard time. Thielen added the 12th-best time in the nation in the 100 Back, turning in an NCAA B Standard time of 56.64 seconds. She had a time of 5:07.97 in the 500 Free as well. 


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Shaun Yap, Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley senior Shaun Yap continued with his stellar performance for the Cardinals in the Magnus Cup Invitational, hosted over the weekend by Cleveland State University. Yap swam to an NCAA B Standard time in the 100 Breast, finishing with a time of 54.44 seconds. That ranks him No. 3 overall nationally. He added marks of 2:03.31 in the 200 Breast, 21.31 in the 50 Free and 1:41.99 in the 200 Free.
