GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the fifth weekly awards of the swimming and diving season. Northern Michigan senior Renars Bundzis earned GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week accolades, while NMU sophomore Gabriella Spajic captured GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Renars Bundzis - Northern Michigan
Senior Renars Bundzis captured two victories and helped a relay win as Northern Michigan University defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes Grand Valley State University and Saginaw Valley State University double dual meet. He started the meet by helping the 200-yard Medley Relay team earn a victory. Individually, he then captured the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 50.04 and claimed the 200-yard Backstroke in 1:50.13.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Gabriella Spajic - Northern Michigan
Sophomore Gabriella Spajic captured three first-place victories in the Wildcats double-dual meet win over Grand Valley State University and Saginaw Valley State University. She started the meet by posting an NCAA B-Cut time of 10:23.36 in the 1,000-yard Freestyle. She then went on to win the 200-yard Butterfly in 2:08.65 and the 500-yard Freestyle by touching the wall at 5:05.80.
