GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the sixth weekly awards of the swimming and diving season. Wayne State junior co-captain Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro earned GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week accolades, while Northern Michigan freshman Mary Grossman captured GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro - Wayne State
Wayne State junior co-captain Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) helped lead Wayne State to a 125-77 win at home against the Ashland Eagles last Saturday (Nov. 10). Ribeiro notched a victory in the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.46, meeting the NCAA B qualifying standard of 4:00.42.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Mary Grossman - Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan freshman Mary Grossman won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives in the team’s lone meet at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In the 1-meter, the freshman won with a score of 278.50. She posted a winning score of 287.55 to claim the 3-meter.
