NMU's Helm and GVSU's Shalamon share athlete of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the eighth weekly awards of the swimming and diving season. Grand Valley State junior Harry Shalamon was named GLIAC Men's Athlete of the Week, while Northern Michigan junior Rachel Helm captured GLIAC Women's Athlete of the Week honors.


FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Rachel Helm - Northern Michigan

At the Calvin College Invitational, junior Rachel Helm won the women’s 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.30 and 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.33, and she was part of Northern Michigan’s 400-yard freestyle relay team that clocked a new school, pool record and NCAA qualifying time of 3:26.17. She also swam on the Wildcats’ winning 200 medley, that clocked a NCAA qualifying time of 1:43.41.


MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Harry Shalamon - Grand Valley State

Junior Harry Shalamon was an individual triple winner at the Calvin College Invitational, taking the men’s 200-yard backstroke in 1:43.86, 200-yard individual medley in 1:48.34 and 100-yard backstroke in :47.15. He made the NCAA A cut in the 200 backstroke and the B cut in the 200 IM. He also helped Grand Valley State win the 200-yard freestyle relay.
