GLIAC recognizes men's and women's swimmers and divers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following week nine of the 2022-23 swimming & diving season. Saginaw Valley State senior Alejandro Robles Ruiz was recognized as men's swimmer of the week while Wayne State swept the remaining awards, with Jordan Fox (women's swimming), Grant Porter (men's diving) and Mikaela Senkus (women's diving) being honored.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Alejandro Robles Ruiz, Saginaw Valley State

Alejandro Robles Ruiz had a record-setting week as he set benchmarks as a member of the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, and 800-yard freestyle relay teams and individually. Robles Ruiz helped set SVSU records as the last leg on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that registered a time of 1 minute, 20.63 seconds, the first leg of the 200-yard medley team that finished in 1:28.61, and the first leg in the 800-yard freestyle team that finished in 6:37.98. In addition, the senior from Granada, Spain, had a day individually, breaking SVSU records in the 100-backstroke (48.33 seconds) and 100-butterfly (47.84 seconds). He also won the 200-backstroke in 1:46.73.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Jordan Fox, Wayne State

Wayne State University senior Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) has earned her first GLIAC Swimmer of the Week honor this season after a strong showing at the Don Kimble Invitational this past weekend (Nov. 18-20). Fox won the 500 free by posting a time of 4:58.94. She then went on to win the 200 free by touching out in a time of 1:51.40. She showed her versatility by claiming the top spot in the 200 back. She recorded a time of 2:03.15. Individually she also claimed second in the 1650 free by notching a time of 17:09.85.vRelay wise, Fox aided a pair of first-place finishes and one second-place finish. Fox led off the winning 800 free relay team and helped that group post a time of 7:37.74. She then anchored the winning 400 free relay, as that quartet registered a time of 3:28.72. She also anchored the 400 medley relay, where WSU's team finished second with a time of 3:51.86.

MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Grant Porter, Wayne State

Wayne State University redshirt senior Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) brought his A-game to the Don Kimble Invitational this past weekend, as he was able to sweep the diving competitions. This was Porter's first GLIAC weekly honor of the season. In the one-meter event, he topped the field with a score of 418.85. He also won the three-meter event, as he posted a final score of 415.75.

WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Mikaela Senkus, Wayne State

Wayne State University junior Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) continued her strong start to the season, as she earned her third GLIAC Diver of the Week honor in the last month. As she has done for most of the season, Senkus won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions at the Don Kimble Invitational this past weekend. In the three-meter event, she topped the field by more than 30 points, finishing with a score of 442.70. In the one-meter competition, Senkus was able to edge her teammate for the top spot. She finished with a final score of 385.85.
