2017 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Begin Wednesday in Allendale

2017 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Central

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships get underway this Wednesday (May 3) on the campus of Grand Valley State University at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium. Multis events kick things off on Wednesday with field and running events starting Thursday with preliminary heats, while champions will be crowned following finals races on Friday.

Grand Valley State looks to continue their impressive run of outdoor championships on its home turf. The Lakers have captured 17 consecutive GLIAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field titles with the men currently on a three-year streak of league championships. The GVSU men have won 11-of-the-last-16 outdoor titles, while Ashland has collected the remaining five with the last title coming back in 2013.

Six teams are currently ranked inside the USTFCCCA rankings with all five inside the Top 15, including four programs claiming Top 10 distinction. The GVSU women are positioned No. 5 in the latest standings, while the Findlay women are slated No. 14 with Hillsdale rankings 25th. All three ranked GLIAC men's programs are inside the Top 10, with Ashland leading the way at No. 1, while Tiffin is sixth coming off of the GLIAC Indoor Championship and back-to-back NCAA Indoor titles. The GVSU Lakers are positioned No. 9 as they look to make it four straight GLIAC outdoor titles.
