Trio of Eagles, Wayne State's Johnson Collect Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the 2016-17 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Wayne State senior Kierra Johnson earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Ashland senior thrower Megan Tomei captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Ashland sophomore Myles Pringle earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Ashland junior thrower Daniel Roberts captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition after impressive performances at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Kierra Johnson, Wayne State

Wayne State senior Kierra Johnson won two events at the Findlay Oiler Opener on Saturday.  She took first in the 60m dash with a wining time of 7.67, which is an NCAA Provisional mark.  She also won the 200m dash in a time of 25.48.  Johnson placed 15th at the 2016 NCAA Championships in the 60m dash with a time of 7.62, the second-fastest time in program history.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Megan Tomei, Ashland

Ashland senior Megan Tomei automatically qualified for indoor nationals in the shot put with a top distance of 15.77 meters/51-feet-9, while also provisionally qualifying for the weight throw at 18.62 meters/51-feet-1.25. She has the top shot put mark in the country and the sixth-best weight throw distance in Division II.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Pringle, Ashland

Ashland sophomore Myles Pringle turned in the third-best NCAA Division II indoor time in history in the 400-meter dash at 46.11 seconds, while also winning the high jump in 2.17 meters/7-feet-1.5 – both marks being new Ashland indoor school records. Pringle automatically qualified for 2017 D-II indoor nationals in both events, while also being part of the provisional-qualifying 4x400 relay team which finished in 3:14.32. Pringle has the nation’s top 400 and high jump marks in the early part of the 2016-17 season.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Daniel Roberts, Ashland

Ashland junior Daniel Roberts, in his first action as an Eagle, automatically qualified for nationals in the weight throw with a top mark of 20.99 meters/68-feet-10.5, and provisionally qualified in the shot put at 16.41 meters/53-feet-10.25. He has the top weight throw mark in D-II so far, and the 15th-best shot put mark.
