Pair of Ashland Eagles Repeat; Hillsdale & Wayne State Earn Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the third weekend of the 2016-17 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Wayne State junior Karrington Seals earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Ashland senior thrower Megan Tomei captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Hillsdale junior Colby Clark earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Ashland junior thrower Daniel Roberts captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Karrington Seals, Wayne State

Wayne State junior Karrington Seals won the finals of the 60m hurdles at the Hillsdale Winter Opener in a provisional time of 8.72.  The first women's indoor track All-American in WSU history a year ago, Seals now owns the top five times in the 60m hurdles in the five-year history of the Warrior track program.  Her time of 8.72 this past Saturday is the ninth-best in Division II this year.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Megan Tomei, Ashland

Ashland senior Megan Tomei won the women’s shot put at the Ohio State Buckeye Classic with a top mark of 15.91 meters/52-feet-2.5. That mark is 0.54 meters/1-foot-9.25 better than the No. 2 distance in D-II.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Colby Clark, Hillsdale

Hillsdale junior captain Colby Clark had a strong home indoor season debut for the Charger men’s track team at the Hillsdale Winter Opener Saturday. Clark won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.16, helping Hillsdale to a 1-2-3 sweep of the event. He also ran the lead leg of the 4x400 relay team that finished second, with an impressive split time of 51.62.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Daniel Roberts, Ashland

Ashland junior Daniel Roberts boasted a winning men's weight throw mark at the Ohio State Buckeye Classic of 21.47 meters/70-feet-5.25, while in the men’s shot put, he took fifth with an improved provisional nationals distance of 16.72 meters/54-feet-10.25. Roberts’ top weight throw is 0.69 meters/2-feet-3 better than the next-best mark.
