GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors | Week 8

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the eighth weekend of the 2016-17 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State's 4x400 relay team earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State junior Kyra Hull captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Ashland's 4x400 relay team earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Tiffin senior Coy Blair captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition along with USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week designation.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - 4x400 Relay, Grand Valley State (Chant'e Roberts, Rachael Walters, Jessica O'Connell, Angela Ritter)

The Grand Valley State 4x400m relay team posted an automatic qualifying time of 3:43.09 at the GVSU Big Meet and broke a school record on their way to a first place finish in Friday's event. The Laker team of Chant’e Roberts, Rachael Walters, Jessica O’Connell, and Angela Ritter narrowly won the race by .12 seconds over Southwest Baptist. GVSU’s time is good enough for the fastest time in the GLIAC and second fastest in Division II. 


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Kyra Hull, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Kyra Hull was able to grab the top mark in the weight throw at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday. Hull’s throw of 20.07m (65’ 10.25”) was good enough for an automatic qualification for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Hull now ranks third in the GLIAC in the event and fifth in Division II. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - 4x400 Relay, Ashland (Columbus Millet, Devin Snowden, Paul Murray, Myles Pringle)

Ashland’s 4x400 relay team of senior Columbus Millet, sophomore Devin Snowden, freshman Paul Murray and sophomore Myles Pringle has earned the Week 8 conference honor. The quartet finished the 4x4 at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 10) in 3:12.59 – a time good for the No. 3 spot in NCAA Division II so far in 2016-17.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Coy Blair, Tiffin

Tiffin University senior Coy Blair had another strong performance, this time at the Tiffin Dragon Invite, as he registered a put of 19.16 meters (62-10.5) in the shot put. The distance gave Blair an NCAA Automatic qualifier mark. Blair currently holds the top marks in the shot put in NCAA Division II and the GLIAC. Blair also hit a provisional mark in the same meet in the weight throw (66-3). Blair also earned USTFCCCA Division II Athlete of the Week honors for his performance over the weekend.
