BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the ninth weekend of the 2016-17 indoor track and field season. In women's competition, Walsh junior Sarah Berger earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season, while Findlay junior Trevia Gumbs captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Tiffin junior Reginald Thomas earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Tiffin senior Marquise Corbett captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition for the second time this year.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Sarah Berger, Walsh
Walsh junior Sarah Berger won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.19 at the Kent State Tune-Up this past weekend. It was her first time running the event this year for the No. 21 Cavaliers. Not only did she hit the provo mark, she ran the ninth-best time in the nation and second fastest time in the GLIAC.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Trevia Gumbs, Findlay
Findlay junior Trevia Gumbs' performance at the Findlay Meet for Everyone was her best meet since joining the Oilers. Gumbs finished in second place in the weight throw with a personal-best toss that measured 19.48m (63'11"), automatically qualifying her for the NCAA DII National Championship meet. That throw is the fourth-best in the GLIAC this season and is the seventh-best in the nation. She also set a personal-best in the shot put with a throw of 13.48m (44'2.75").
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Reginald Thomas, Tiffin
Tiffin junior sprinter Reginald Thomas hit the top mark in the GLIAC this season with a blistering 6.69 time in the 60 meter dash at the Kent State Tune-up. The mark was an NCAA Automatic qualifying time and is the second-fastest time posted in NCAA Division II this season. Overall he finished 2nd at Kent State while setting a new personal best with the time.
