Ashland Men, GVSU Women Maintain Top Spots in Indoor Rankings

Official USTFCCCA Rankings Release: MEN | WOMEN

(Men's Rankings) — The more things change, the more they stay the same. That can certainly be said of the 4th week of the Men’s National Division II Team Rankings, as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday, where Ashland, Adams State, Grand Valley State and Tiffin all stayed put in spots one through four.

Ashland’s 4 x 400 relay and distance medley relay teams had strong weekends at the GVSU Big Meet Invite over the weekend. The 4 x 400 relay quartet ran the 3rd-fastest time in Division II with a finish of 3:12.59, while the distance medley team now owns the 4th-best time in Division II after a performance that saw them finish 9:47.98. Sophomore Myles Pringle also ran a 21.39 in the 200 meters, good for 4th in Division II.

Tiffin’s Coy Blair, who was named the NCAA Men’s Division II National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, claimed the top spot in all of Division II in the shot put with a throw of 19.16m (62-10 ½), helping the Dragons stay in the top-5 for the 16th-straight week, dating back to the fifth week of the 2015 campaign.

(Women's Rankings) — For the 4th-consecutive week, Grand Valley State remains on top of the Women’s National Division II Team Rankings, as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

The Lakers saw a plethora of solid performances this past weekend at the GVSU Big Meet Invite that allowed them to stay in the top spot, despite legitimate competition from Pittsburg State, who jumped to 2nd place once again after a week of being in 3rd.

GVSU’s 4 x 400 relay (3:43.09) and distance medley (11:32.28) squads put together strong outings, as the quartets notched the 2nd and 3rd fastest times in Division II on the season, respectively, in Allendale, Michigan, over the weekend. Additionally, senior Kyra Hull recorded the 5th-best throw in Division II in the weight throw with a mark of 20.07m (65-10 ¼), while fellow senior Kendra Foley continued her stellar indoor campaign with the 6th-best time in the mile in Division II at 4:48.87. Sprinter Angela Ritter joined in on the action with a time of 55.08 in the 400 meters, good for 4th in all of Division II.

The 2017 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 10-11. Be sure to check www.USTFCCCA.org throughout the season to see how the rankings change between now and then.
