NEW ORLEANS – The Tiffin University indoor men and the Grand Valley State University outdoor women were named the 2016-17 NCAA Division II Track & Field Scholar Teams of the Year on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Tiffin was named the Men's Indoor Scholar Team of the Year after winning the indoor team title and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.11. This is the second year in a row that the Dragons were bestowed this honor.
Grand Valley State was named the Women's Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year after finishing a game runner-up to West Texas A&M. The Lakers held down a cumulative GPA of 3.258. GVSU was also named Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
All-Academic Teams
There were 191 teams honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics (115 women's, 76 men's). Ten Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) programs achieved all-academic team status:
