INDIANAPOLIS — The three-day 2018 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, N.C. on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University has concluded. The Ashland Eagle men finished runner up with 51 points just ahead of the Tiffin men with 50 points. Grand Valley State's women's program finished fourth with 40.5 points, while the men's team finished fifth with 39 points.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conferece earned 54 First Team All-America honorees as attained by those who finished inside the Top 8 of each event along with four event titles.
Tiffin graduate senior James Ngandu took home the men's 10K national championship in his final meet with a 29:19.91 showing to better the GVSU duo of Zach Panning and Chris May in second and third, respectively. Ashland's Myles Pringle earned the top spot at the podium with a time of 45.35 in the men's 400 dash to earn his fourth consecutive national title in the event.
GVSU standout Zach Panning hoisted the national title after he set a blazing pace of 14:00.69 in the men's 5,000 meter race to outkick his teammate Enael Woldemichael in second and Tiffin's Ngandu in fourth. The final national champions from the GLIAC came from the Ashand 4x400 men's relay consisting of Channing Phillips, Trevor Bassitt, T.J. Elliott, Myles Pringle who put together a time of 3:07.66 to earn the top prize.
