GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors | Week 2

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the second weekend of the 2017 outdoor track and field season. In women's competition, Grand Valley State's 4x400 squad consisting of Angela Ritter, Chant'e Roberts, Nicole Sreenan and Rachael Walters earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State sophomore Mary Hecksel captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men's side, Tiffin graduate senior James Ngandu earned GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week distinction, while Tiffin freshman Nikolas Curtiss captured GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - GVSU 4x400 Relay - Angela Ritter, Chant'e Roberts, Nicole Sreenan and Rachael Walters

The Grand Valley State women’s 4x400 relay team composed of Nicole Sreenan, Chant’e Roberts, Angela Ritter and Rachael Walters set a GVSU women’s outdoor 4x400m relay record after the team hit a provisional time of 3:41.07 placing 8th overall, during the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this past weekend. The Lakers’ time ranks as the fastest in both the GLIAC and in Division II.


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Mary Hecksel, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State sophomore Mary Hecksel put up the top mark during the EIU Big Blue Classic after she hit a provisional mark in the discus, with a distance of 45.25m (148’ 5”). Hecksel now holds the best mark in the GLIAC and is 21st in the nation.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - James Ngandu, Tiffin

Tiffin graduate senior James Ngandu got off to a phenomenal start to his outdoor track and field season, posting an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the 10,000 meters in a time of 28:45.96. The mark, which won the event at the Raleigh Relays, is tops in the nation and the GLIAC and also obliterated his own school record by over 30 seconds. 


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Nickolas Curtiss, Tiffin

Tiffin freshman Nikolas Curtiss also got off to a strong start to the 2018 outdoor track and field season, hitting an automatic qualifying mark in shot put at the Wingate Dual. His winning put carried 18.46 meters (60' 6.75") and is the top mark in the GLIAC so far this season. His throw also ranks him 3rd nationally.
